Julie Holmes (1985-2017)
It is with great sadness that the club relays news of the death of former Gateshead and Whickham swimmer Julie Holmes. Julie (then Hall) was a fantastically gifted swimmer who represented the club with distinction for many years throughout the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, reaching national level, and making friends wherever she went with her wonderfully giving personality. Julie went on to teach for the council and in that time brought through many of our current swimmers. Julie also provided coaching cover for various squads within the club and was much loved by everyone who knew her. Julie will be sadly missed, our thoughts, love, and deepest condolences go out to her husband Scott (also a distinguished ex-GAW swimmer) and her family at this difficult time.
