Welcome to Gateshead and Whickham Swimming Club

100+ years of competitive swimming.

Child Protection

At Gateshead and Whickham ASC, we are committed to ensure a safe environment for children and young people. We work alongside the safeguarding teams at Swim North East and Swim England to ensure we are up to date with legislation and current best practice, as well as the new challenges facing children and young people in today’s society.

Wavepower 2020 – 23 is the new Swim England Child Safeguarding Policies and Procedures manual which must be adopted by all Swim England affiliated clubs such as ourselves.  Advice and guidance can be found in this manual for coaches, parents and swimmers.

Our Club Welfare Officer is Nicola McPherson and she can be contacted in confidence at childprotectionofficer@gawswim.org.uk with any safeguarding concerns or queries.    The Club Welfare Officer is supported by the Northumberland and Durham Welfare Officer and you can read the Gateshead and Whickham ASC Child Protection Policy here.

If you are a child or young person and you are worried or concerned about anything ‘Speak Out’ – this might include telling a coach or trusted adult that you are uncomfortable with something which has been said, or something that is happening to you, either by an adult or a fellow swimmer.

If you have concerns about your own safety or that of a friend, and you do not want to talk to somebody at the club or your school, the following contact information may be helpful to you.
