CONDOLENCES Sad passing of ex GAW swimmer and coach

It is with great sadness that we share with Gateshead and Whickham swimmers, coaches and parents, both past and present, that Graham Pearson passed away last Sunday following a short struggle against pancreatic cancer.

Graham was an active member of Gateshead & Whickham ASC in the 90s and 2000s. He was a very competitive and enthusiastic masters swimmer during this time, winning many gold medals and breaking records, especially in the breaststroke events, at national and European level. He was a silver medallist in 200 Fly at the 2002 Masters World Championships.

Graham also helped the club out with coaching when we needed him most and inspired many GAW junior swimmers to improve their performance.

After moving to coach at Carlisle, he still retained his links with our club, both with Masters swimmers and with our current coaches. Always willing to talk and pass on advice in his always friendly way.

He will be sadly missed by his many friends in swimming, he was a wonderful guy.  Our thoughts are with Judy, his wife and both their families at this sad time.
