REPORT Scottish Open Short Course Nationals Report 2017

Report by Coach Nesworthy

(Photos to follow)

Six swimmers from my Youth Senior Performance Group qualified for this year’s top-class 3-day Scottish short course championships.

  • Sarah March
  • Sarah “Tigger” Wright
  • Zoe “Zippy” Price
  • Adam Morkot
  • Sam Pashley
  • James “Hamez” Strickland

The event was held at the Royal Commonwealth Pool Edinburgh from the 8th to the 10th December and there were some great performances.

Sarah March and Zoe Price

Leading up to this event, both girls had put in some long, Intense, hard and specific breaststroke sets in both the training tank and the gym. This paid off and it resulted in them producing quality performances throughout all of the 6 races in which they competed.

Sarah and Zoe are developing into Breaststroke specialists producing 100% LTB’s and ALL TIME CLUB RECORDS in the 50,100,200m Breaststroke events.

  • 100m Sarah 1.17.46 / Zoe 1.17.09 (All -Time club record)
  • 200m Sarah 2.44.82(All Time Club Record) Zoe 2.52.29
  • 50m event both athletes sub 35.00 seconds for the first time. Recently crowned Swim England North East Junior 50m Champion Zoe 34.76 and Sarah with another all-time club record of 34.48

Sarah Wright

Sarah had the busiest race program of all of the GAW swimmers, sompeting in nine events.  She produced consistent performances throughout the 3-day competition working on specific race strategies.

She had LTB swims in both the 50 Free with 27.97 and 50 Back with 30.79. These were all-time club records!

Sarah’s other excellent LTB performance of the competition came in the 200 Free with 2.10.72. Holly Whites 13-year-old record of 2.07.62 is on the horizon as Sarah’s next performance target.

Adam Morkot

Despite being on a modified training program, Adam qualified for his most ever five Scottish Nationals events.

Adam produced a LTB performance in the 100m IM with 1.05.61 and was close to all his PBs in the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly events. The 200 being his closest with a time of 2.15.24 just 0.83 secs of his LTB

Sam Pashley

A consistently hard work ethic in training sessions and some great competition performances enabled Sam Pashley to achieve his goal of qualifying at these championships for the first time.

As the youngest member of the group, Sam the lined up in heat 1 of the 400 Freestyle and despite misjudging his opening 100m pace, he still produced a solid performance of 4.26.00. Just 2 seconds away from his LTB. A good experience for the next time!!
